Things you can do while you wait.
Here's a quick and easy breakdown of the steps to make this a success!
While You Wait...
To prepare for your transfer from your current brokerage or wait to pass your exam there are several things you'll want to to make the transition as smooth as possible.
If you are transferring you'll want to do these things:
-
Get a copy of any closings or pending documents that you want
-
Review your current ICA for how pending listings and contracts will be handled
-
Export your contacts from a company provided CRM
-
Prepare your written notice of transfer for your current broker
Example letter:
I wanted to personally thank you for everything you’ve done to support me during my time at [Current Brokerage Name]. I’ve learned a lot here and I truly appreciate the opportunities, guidance, and relationships that have shaped my growth as an agent.
After a lot of consideration and reflection on the direction I want to take in my business, I’ve made the decision to transfer my license to a new brokerage. This choice is part of a larger vision for how I want to grow and serve my clients, and it’s not a reflection of anything lacking here - just a step toward where I feel most aligned moving forward.
I’ll make this transition as smooth as possible and will handle any open items professionally. I’m grateful for my time with the team and sincerely wish you and everyone at [Current Brokerage Name] continued success.
If you are newly licensed (or getting licensed) you'll want to do these things:
1. Get a professional photo(s)
When getting your professional real estate photo taken, aim for a clean, high-quality image that feels confident, approachable, and polished. Stick to solid colors or subtle patterns, and wear something you’d actually meet a client in - nothing too trendy or flashy. Choose a clean background (like a neutral studio or softly blurred outdoor setting), and make sure the lighting is bright and flattering. Get at least one head-and-shoulders shot and one mid-length photo so you can use them across signs, social media, and marketing materials. Keep it natural, professional, and timeless so it lasts you more than a season.
2. Create a list of your SOI
SOI is your sphere of influence. People who know you, like you, trust you. Start having conversations now to let them know you'll soon be licensed. Put together a list of their name, phone number, email and address in a google sheet or excel file. We'll give you a template to use when you join and the admin will upload this to your new team provided CRM (full service only).
3. Work on Your Bio
What do you want people to know about you? This is your message to potential new clients and why they should work with you.
Example Bio: Real estate isn’t just a career for me. It’s a calling. I got licensed because I genuinely love helping people navigate big life transitions and make smart, confident decisions about where they live. Before real estate, I worked in [insert prior field], where I developed strong skills in negotiation, problem-solving, and client service. That background taught me how to stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and always put people first. I may be new to real estate, but I’m not new to hard work. My clients get my full attention, quick response times, and a relentless commitment to doing things right. I am passionate about helping others find their place in the community. Whether you’re buying your first home or planning your next big move, I would love to help you do it with clarity and confidence.
4. Marketing Prep
-
Clean up your personal social media profiles (especially Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
-
Create business pages for each social channel and attempt to get the same @handle across social media but you should not use or promote these until you are licensed.
-
Work on your bio
-
Consider purchasing a domain (yourname.com) which you'll point to your agent page once you're onboard.
-
Prep your “I joined Luxe Omni” announcement post and what you want to say
-
Consider setting up a free LinkTree
-
You'll get access to business card templates, marketing templates, etc and signs once you join
